Democracy and an Informed Public

You can expect spin from the powers that be that puts things in the best perspective for themselves. Granted though, you would not expect out and out lies. From the media you would expect fair and unbiased reporting and enough information so that you can tell the fact from fiction and spin from outright lies. It was James Reston who said, "A democracy -- our democracy -- cannot be lied to ... The basic principle involved is that of confidence. A dictatorship can get along without an informed public opinion. A democracy cannot." James Reston, New York Times. Well if we have to rely on the news media we have today I just wonder how long it will be till this democracy of ours expires. How is the informed electorate being served by either the press or our government in this instance
